The Journey of Kamikoto Knives
At Kamikoto, we pride ourselves on being masters of tradition.
When we created Kamikoto, we were determined to craft elegant Japanese knives in a way that stayed true to traditional methods and yielded the utmost quality.
We wanted to find a way to skillfully craft the most practical knives for chefs and knife enthusiasts, just like the Emperor’s Blacksmiths did for their local populations.
This is exactly what we did, as we are dedicated to crafting our knives with heritage and skill.
In doing so, we have created a rigorous 19 step process which we follow while crafting each knife. The entirety of this process takes several years from start to finish and is one which we are greatly proud of and humbled to share with you.
Our knives start their journey in the earth, where iron ore is mined from the mountains of Chiba and Ibaraki, Japan.
From here, the iron ore is blasted at high heats in our furnaces and then poured meticulously into hand-crafted molds which are prepared by our Knifesmiths for cooling.
Yielded from these molds are Honshu steel plates, which are then further crafted and shaped into knives, with bolsters welded to each one by hand.
From here, our experienced craftsmen create the handles for our knives with a great level of precision and diligently forge and sharpen each blade, one by one.
We then further polish each knife, which brings out an unparalleled luster that is a distinguishable feature of any Kamikoto knife.
We put each of our knives through an extensive inspection process where it is thoroughly examined by certified craftsmen, Kamikoto inspectors and finally, Kamikoto’s three master Knifesmiths.
From here, a flawless blade leaves Kamikoto’s workshop, where endless hours and craftsmanship has been invested into them.
This is the final leg of the knife’s journey, as it is now on its way to you.
