Why Kamikoto Uses Honshu Steel

Japanese steel is a crucial component to creating Kamikoto knives, carefully chosen steel mills on Honshu 本州 island, from the prefectures of Niigata 新潟市, Ibaraki 茨城県and Kanagawa 神奈川県 are a part of what makes these blades so incredible. With a myriad of steel available to craft with, we purposefully chose to source our materials from Honshu because we know this steel embodies a unique strength that allows for longevity and minimal wear and tear.

Quality Above All

  • When it comes to crafting our blades, quality assurance it above all. We believe that from the moment you use a Kamikoto blade, it will quickly become your go-to knife. That means our knives must be highly functional, have a timeless aesthetic and perform with precision. Kamikoto knives are guaranteed to remain rust free, you can even use the knife under running water without fear of damaging it.
  • Before creating our Honshu steel knives, Kamikoto conducted tests with various steel sourced from all around Japan. Only after rigorous testing did we chose to use this material. It was important to Kamikoto to find the right balance of durability, strength and beauty.
  • Versatility is key. Whether you are chopping vegetables or cutting steak, your knife should be able to handle the challenge set out in front of it. This is another reason why we chose Honshu steel, it is capable in every sense. Kamikoto offers a selection of Japanese knives that are crafted to serve all purposes, for example, the Santoku Chef’s Knife is a multi-functional blade that covers all the culinary basics. Whilst the Kamikoto Kanpeki Set allows chefs to use specialised knives for when they are chopping vegetables, filleting fish or slicing fruit.

Skilled Artisans At Work

The steel is only the beginning. It takes the hands of a true craftsman to know how to take advantage of this sensational material. Crafting a Kamikoto knife takes a seasoned craftsman. Taking inspiration from traditional techniques, we have modernised the process to allow for an even more impressive finish. Working with Honshu steel requires strength, dedication and attention to detail. That is the very reason why we collaborate with the craftsmen that we do, they handle each individual blade with care and consideration, and through hard work comes the masterful Kamikoto knife.
